DESCRIPTION:On Sunday\, December 1 at 2:00 p.m.\, stop by the Carnegie-Stout Public Library for a free event that combines photography with local history. \nEnjoy a presentation from Dubuque photographer Tim Olson\,  Mike Gibson from the Center for Dubuque History\, and Kristin Anderson-Bricker\, professor of history at Loras College. \nThey will discuss two new books: \nA City at Work\, Dubuque 1912 by Tim Olson and Mike Gibson\, features essays about and prints from a collection of glass plate negatives taken in 1912 and housed in the Loras College Center for Dubuque History. A photography exhibit will also be held at the Dubuque Museum of Art in January 2020. \nA City at Work: Dubuque\, 2012 by Tim Olson contains his photos of the same locations 100 years later. \nThis event is free and open to the public. All tri-state area photographers are welcome to attend. \nWe are planning a light painting activity. Depending on the weather\, we will also go outside for a night photoshoot. Bring tripod and gear. \nYou may want to practice long exposure photography before the meeting. If you are willing to hold the lights for light painting\, be sure to wear dark clothing. For going outside: Dress warmly and wear your hiking shoes. You may want to bring a flashlight and/or binoculars (for looking at the moon/stars). DESCRIPTION:The Iowa State Fair will be held in Des Moines on August 8-18\, 2019. The theme is “It’s all about the 8’s.” Photos need to show a group of eight items\, or something that makes the shape of an 8. They must be naturally occurring\, not artificially arranged. \nPhotography entry deadline is June 15-16\, 2019. Fine art deadline is May 31. SUMMARY:2019 N4C Spring Mini-convention
DESCRIPTION:The 2019 N4C Spring Mini-Convention will be held on May 3-5\, 2019 at Wesley Woods in Indianola\, Iowa. \nDorm rooms are available; bring your own bedding and towels. A campground is available. Indianola has 3 motels\, and is 12 miles from WesleyWoods. Registration will be $20; there will be no Sunday lunch. The road that goes to Wesley Woods is off of state Highway 92\, which goes from east to west. Take Hwy 92 west of Indianola\, then turn south at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church onto R63. Wesley Woods is located about 6-7 miles from there. See the N4C website for more details about the mini-con.
