DESCRIPTION:The Dubuque Camera Club meeting on Monday\, March 16\, 2020 is CANCELLED.\nWe are sorry\, but the Dubuque Camera Club meeting that was scheduled for Monday\, March 16 has been cancelled. \nThe Iowa DNR is restricting use of their facilities during the coronavirus pandemic\, so we cannot meet in the nature center.  In addition\, the City of Dubuque has recommended practicing “social distancing” to prevent the spread of the virus. This means people should avoid meeting in large groups when possible\, in order to keep our family and loved ones safe! \nPlease protect yourself and your loved ones from the spread of illness by following these guidelines from the CDC. \nClub members: You are encouraged to take Still Life photos at home and post the images to the club’s Facebook group. We’d love to see your creative images! \n\nHere’s a collection of ideas.\nHere’s still life advice from Adobe.\nHere’s some technical advice that talks about lighting.\nCheck this site for examples on a dark background.\nLook at 35 examples.\nSee lots more still life examples here.

DESCRIPTION:The Dubuque Camera Club will judge the Digital Pictorial category of the N4C competition at the club meeting on Monday\, February 24\, 2020. The meeting starts at 6:30 p.m. \nTHIS MEETING WAS RESCHEDULED DUE TO WEATHER AND ILLNESS ON FEB. 17. \nSee past winners from Digital Pictorial. \nOur club judges an N4C category about three times a year. You are encouraged to attend judging nights to learn how the judging process works and to see a lot of great images! \nWe will be looking at images from other N4C-affiliated clubs. Three active\, experienced Dubuque Camera Club members will be needed as volunteer judges. \nNote that the N4C rules have changed\, and the scoring system is changing too! It can be very confusing\, so if you would like to understand the judging process\, be sure to read the rules on their website.

DESCRIPTION:The Dubuque Camera Club will meet on Monday\, October 21\, 2019 at 6:30 p.m. Location: E.B. Lyons Interpretive Center\, Mines of Spain. All tri-state area photographers are welcome to attend. \nWe are planning a light painting activity. Depending on the weather\, we will also go outside for a night photoshoot. Bring tripod and gear. \nYou may want to practice long exposure photography before the meeting. If you are willing to hold the lights for light painting\, be sure to wear dark clothing. For going outside: Dress warmly and wear your hiking shoes. You may want to bring a flashlight and/or binoculars (for looking at the moon/stars). DESCRIPTION:The Dubuque Camera Club will meet on TUESDAY\, Sept. 3\, 2019\, for the first meeting of the 2019/2020 N4C season.\nMeetings are usually held on the 1st and 3rd Mondays of each month\, in a season that runs from Sept. through May. However\, due to the Labor Day holiday\, this meeting will be held on a Tuesday.\nMeetings start at 6:30 p.m. All tri-state area photography enthusiasts are welcome to attend.\nAnnual club dues of $20 are payable at the first meeting. Club members in good standing may participate in member exhibits/activities\, and submit to the N4C photo competition.\nSubmissions to the monthly N4C competition are due before the meeting. No Digital Nature entries because we will judge that category at the next meeting.

It’s OK to send Photoshopped images. Subject matter and dimensions/file size is open (No need to follow N4C rules).  Club members\, watch your email for more details. \nNote: During this meeting\, we will also hear more about the recent N4C mini-con. May 20 will be our last regular club meeting of the 2018/19 N4C season. June 3rd will be our annual potluck picnic. We do plan to meet informally this summer. The N4C season will start up again in September.

DESCRIPTION:At the Dubuque Camera Club meeting on Monday\, March 18\, 2019\, club member Henry Matthiessen III from Stoned Art Studio in rural Elizabeth\, Illinois\, will present on “The Magic of the Histogram.” The meeting starts at 6:30 p.m. and is free and open to the public. \nIn addition to giving tips on using the histogram in your photography\, Henry will share photos taken on a journey to the Black Rock Desert\, plus photos taken here in the Driftless Area. \nA professional photographer\, Henry has been doing “serious shooting\, take no prisoners” for twelve years.  He has led photography workshops\, mentored high school students\, and has helped others to master photography as an art medium. \nCreator of the artists’ group All River Road Talent\, he co-produces the Scenic Art Loop\, a 113-mile scenic tour of galleries in northwest Illinois. You can also find his stone oil lamps on Etsy or at DubuqueFest or other regional art fairs.  \nPut this photography presentation on your calendar and join us for a little Histogram Magic! \n♦ ♦ Click here for more detailed information about this event. ♦ ♦

DESCRIPTION:The Dubuque Camera Club will meet on Monday\, November 19\, 2018 at 6:30 p.m. Club member Andreas Exner will give a presentation on Storytelling in Wildlife Photography. \nAndreas is a skilled wildlife\, nature\, and landscape photographer. He is originally from Germany and now makes his home in the tri-states. He will share a slideshow of his images and discuss these questions: \n\nHow to get started with wildlife photography\, even with a small camera and lens?\nWhat are good locations to photograph wildlife in and around the Mississippi Valley?\nHow can we become better story tellers with our photos?\nWhat about safety and ethics?\n\nThe hour-long presentation will be followed by a question and answer period. The program is free and open to all photography enthusiasts in the tri-state area. \nIf you wish to join the Dubuque Camera Club\, annual membership dues of only $20 will allow you to participate in events\, competition\, and exhibitions.
